Your body is a compass no one taught you to use

Before you think "this makes sense to me", your body has already moved. A tightness in the chest, a lightness in the shoulders, a knot in the stomach. It's not imagination — it's information. The ability to sense the body's internal state is called interoception, and it's the scientific basis of "sensing before knowing".

The body senses first

Neuroscientist A. D. Craig mapped the pathway that carries the body's signals to the insular cortex, where they become conscious feeling. And Antonio Damasio showed that these signals steer decisions before we can explain them.

And it's not just poetry: it's measurable

In a study on a London trading floor, traders who better detected their own heartbeat were more profitable and survived longer. The better the body-reading, the better the decision under uncertainty. And interoception can be trained — training improves emotional clarity and lowers anxiety.

How to read the body without fooling yourself

The body isn't an infallible oracle — it's an input to add to reason, not a verdict.

Calibrate the compass (2 min): say something true ("my name is ___") and notice the body open — lightness, expansion: that's your yes. Say something false and notice the body close — tightness, weight: that's your no. Then, in a real decision, ask and listen to the direction. Let it inform, not command.

This is the Open Eyes layer

In the game, "open eyes" trains exactly this: you observe, stay present, and let the body signal the answer that's out there before the mind decides.
